The retail clothing sector has been transformed by automation and the Amazon model.
What worries me is that growth in low cost, on-demand commerce does not seem to increase efforts to maintain an ethical supply chain. Customers need tools so that they know where stuff is made. Cheap clothes (and other cheap things online) tend to come from questionable sources.
The technology fueling the new shopping culture won’t go away. However, the technologists writing the algorithms need input from the stakeholders overseeing supply chains. An ethical supply chain can be automated, too.
