Core Values

Recently attended a Leadership Austin workshop on core values.

This is what I scribbled:

The feedback received from Keith Lewis, Leadership Austin instructor, included combining the category buckets into present tense sentences:

“I am goal oriented, always improving by creating specific objectives that allow me to stay focused, be resilient, gritty and resourceful, and always asking for help.”

Adding more:

”I am mindful when practicing self-care: exercising, meditating, praying, learning, and embracing grace to manage my emotions.”

“I am impactful in the community when I help my parents, volunteer outside of work, give back when opportunities present themselves, and become engaged with activities that ‘bridge the digital divide.’

“I embody adventure and joy by travel, learning about other cultures, spending time in nature, and embracing paths I’ve been hesitating to consider.”

Core values can change over time. This exercise helps me reflect on what I feel at this time. My goal of maintaining this journal is to channel positive intentions towards actions—- which strengthen my core values and remind myself of who I am. I am closing the knowing / doing gap in order to improve the quality of my life in Austin, Texas.
