It’s hard to read a book these days when social media gets to the point faster. This monotonous blog keeps my cognitive skills intact. The unlikely story of comedian Nate Bargatze is worth reading. Like Nate, I found myself in NYC around 2010 —- venturing to comedy clubs (as a fan) to see Russell Peters, Jim Gaffigan, Dave Chappelle, and the less famous Bargatze. The economy wasn’t doing that well, but comedy kept the lights on with hardscrabble entertainment. The book is entertaining and positive given the hard life endured by Bargatze. It’s clean and unlikely to offend those more spiritually inclined.
What scaled Nate’s career is undoubtedly the more recent Netflix shows and social media. It really started for him by moving to the streets of NYC from rural Tennessee. America’s biggest cities help launch careers — whether it’s NYC for entertainment and finance or San Francisco for tech and social media. Politics and diplomacy happens in Washington, DC all the time. Those are my favorite cities.
I recommend those young and old to take the bait from this book and move to the biggest cities of their dreams.
