Austin home to Critical Tech Entrepreneurship

Austin continues to snake its way through a challenging economy by focusing on the critical tech sector. Over 100 Austin companies made Inc magazine’s fastest growing company list. Many are focused on national security, energy, or space tech. Giants like Samsung, SpaceX, and what-was-known-as-Twitter are expanding their local footprint.

Austin Next has a nice podcast about this trend. The White House published a report on the technologies driving today’s entrepreneurship. Austin got the memo.

What else is driving this trend? I believe the secret sauce is housing availability and affordability for workers fleeing the expensive coasts. It’s not cheap for the middle class, but much cheaper than coastal metros for tech workers. Austin is not moored by scenic beauty or great weather, but offers more than most metros in the flyover portion of the U.S.

And it beats the heck out of living in Houston or Dallas!
