Winning Ugly is the best tennis book I’ve read. Brad Gilbert, the former coach of Andre Agassi and other pros, shares insights to succeed in league play and local tournaments. I can validate a few points he makes, such as 1) getting a higher percentage of first serves in (at a slower speed), 2) reducing pace against a more aggressive shotmaker, and 3) running a tired opponent off the court with lobs and drop shots when their stamina doesn’t match yours.
The book’s pointers benefit everyday grinders hoping to burn 400 calories while claiming monumental victory. 😀 Also, check out Brad’s tennis shop if you trek north of San Francisco seeking tennis nirvana.
