Austin’s place in this survey of the top 100 world cities is impressive. Austin registered as a blip on the US map just twenty years ago. Thanks to Tesla, SXSW, Formula One, and a whole bunch of young people moving here, Austin finds itself in elite company. I’ve only been to half of the cities on this list. Not sure if this was made in partnership with the US, French, Japanese, and Australian chambers of commerce whose cities are overrepresented. Great cities in Africa and South America are missing.

Convincing Elon Musk to move here might explain how Austin gained prestige. Austin has one of the best economies compared to other top cities and fewer big-city problems, relatively speaking.
