Recently, I met the founder of a civic news organization. It was great to see independent media launch in Texas. It’s possible to stay connected to community news without resorting to big tech resources with the Austin Common newsletter.

The lack of verifiable sources and credible reporting from social media has prompted me to look for local news and trustworthy journalism. It’s only getting worse with AI and the new brand of sound-bite politics making news more about entertainment.

Truth be told, the late night comedians might be closer to the truth. Folks such as Bill Maher and Bill Burr are making waves critical of the new political culture. The zombie apocalypse is surely around the corner if we become dependent on comedians to separate fact from fiction. 🤣

I still respect traditional sources like the NYT, WSJ, and print media. Many are struggling. Some of the old school journalists deserve support on other platforms like podcasting and substack.

I welcome authentic news wherever I can find it including from new sources such as this one.
