Speed matters especially when you travel. New Hyperloop technology could propel trains over 700 mph. A top speed of 375 mph was achieved by a Japanese maglev train.
Hyperloop technology removes air from inside a long tube. A levitated vehicle is accelerated through the tube using a linear electric motor and magnetic levitation. A Hyperloop vehicle can glide quietly at airline speeds for long distances. This form of transport has a much lower carbon footprint than existing trains.
What Elon Musk envisioned may be built and commercialized soon. An entrepreneur in Northern California has already built a prototype using technology where a carriage is shot through a tube. It’s not quite Hyperloop, but something much better than what we have today. This is exciting stuff!
