Is Austin becoming Seattle? (ATX Today link)
ATX Today is a free Austin-based newsletter that launched during the Pandemic. It sure does mimic Seattle’s Evergrey newsletter.
However, the Evergrey may have gone the way of other independent, community-based newspapers. There was once an old pop song, “Video killed the radio star.” Newspapers much like radio and traditional media can’t survive the age of social media. These old forms of news media catered to a brainy audience. The companies had armies of journalists and researchers. The hosts and publishers themselves had college degrees.
Most people today get their news from social media, podcasts, and their favorite YouTubers—- many of whom share news based on personal opinions, not based on facts. I encourage people to look up the educational credentials of their favorite social media stars. Once you learn that they have limited bonafides, you will go back to credible sources.
Much like The Evergrey, ATX Today is legit and a great source for info. I hope it survives.
