The Lean Startup is a popular book by Eric Ries. Long before it was written, Taiichi Ohno came up with the principles which governed lean manufacturing. Lean Manufacturing and The Lean Startup are derived from the principles of Workplace Management, Taiichi Ohno’s book which brings his philosophy together.

The 5 S methodology (defined by Ohno) is used by many organizations.

Sort (Seiri)

  • Clean your workplace on daily basis completely or set cleaning frequency

Standardize (Seiketsu)

  • Standardize the best practices in the work area.

Sustain (Shitsuke)

  • Training and discipline.
